In June 1995 on National Trails Day members of the Houston Sierra Club's Trail Maintenance Team gathered at Double Lake Campground and formed the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club. On October 26, 1995 the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club was incorporated as a Non-Profit Corporation in the State of Texas with the purpose of educating the public about the location, use and needs of the hiking trails of Texas with emphasis on the Lone Star Hiking Trail and to provide volunteer assistance in the maintenance of those trails.
As we celebrate our 30th year we thank the past and present Presidents of the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club:

Jeff Stull: 2005-2007
John Copenhaver:2007-2016
Hilda Zellers: 2016-2021

At the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club's Holiday Gathering on December 13, 2025, we celebrated the Club's 30 anniversary with a special cake.
