Camping in the SHNF is restricted to designated campsites from September 21 through January 26 (one week before the start of archery season and one week after the end of youth/muzzleloading season). During hunting season wear orange in the National Forest for safety and camp only in designated camps. The designated hiker camps are conveniently located and may be used throughout the year. The hiker camps are primitive (although some may have fire rings, tent pads or benches).
A USFS
Designated Camping Map (2020) shows all the camping areas that must be used during this period: Developed Campsites, Hunter Camps, and Primitive Hiker Camps.
Remember that some portions of the LSHT remain closed to hiker and hunter use.
